Overview:

The Coaching Foundations program provides you with the foundational knowledge and skills to enable your growth and transformation as a coach. Using our threefold approach, you will LEARN how to incorporate and demonstrate the ICF Core Competencies into your coaching conversations. You will DISCOVER and maximize your potential through personal growth, develop your unique coaching style, and role-model the values and practice of coaching. And you will start to ENVISION your future opportunities in the coaching profession.

*This program is accredited by the International Coaching Federation (ICF) for 65 total hours of coach-specific education/training.

The Coaching Foundations program is comprised of 5 modules based on the ICF Core Competency model: 

  1. Introduction
    • Program completion requirements 
    • How to apply for the ICF ACC credential 
    • The importance of the ICF core competencies to the practice of coaching 
    • What coaching is and is not 
    • Personal goals
  2. Foundation  
    • Ethics in coaching 
    • Embodying a coaching mindset

  3. Co-Creating the Relationship
    • Establishing the session agenda
    • Goal setting 
    • Structure of a coaching engagement 
    • Empathy and compassion in coaching 
    • Acknowledgements 
    • Emotional intelligence 
    • Mindfulness in coaching 
    • Maintaining presence
  4. Communicating Effectively
    • Levels of listening 
    • Summarizing or paraphrasing for clarity 
    • Sharing observations that support client awareness
    • Positive affirmations  
    • Evoking awareness
    • Powerful questions 
    • Reframing
  5. Cultivating Learning and Growth
    • SMART goals 
    • Accountability
    • Building your business model 
    • Understanding your market

The program also includes the following requirements that can be used to apply for the ICF Level 1 credential: 

  • 10 hours of mentor coaching: 7 hours group and 3 hours one-on-one  
  • 5 coaching observations (3 with written feedback)
  • Performance evaluation  
  • Optional coaching hours to apply toward your required 100 hours 

You will earn the Trio Coaching Certificate and become a Trio Certified Coach (TCC).

Details:

  • Language: English 
  • Location: 100% virtual, live classroom and self-paced learning  
  • Start Date: September 11, 2024
  • Live Classes: Wednesdays 2:00pm-4:00pm Eastern / 11:00am-1:00pm Pacific
  • Hours: 65 hours of education (includes 7 hours of group mentor coaching, 3 hours of 1:1 mentor coaching, and performance evaluation)
  • Time commitment: 16 weeks total
    • Weeks 1-15 include 2 hours live instruction and approximately 2 hours self-paced learning (may vary by week)
    • Week 16 includes self-paced study and the final written assessment
    • Months 2, 3, and 4 each include 1 hour live individual mentoring coaching scheduled outside of class time
    • Month 4 includes the final coaching performance evaluation

 

Target audience: 

  • New to coaching with little to no experience 
  • Experienced coaches wanting to qualify for an ICF credential 
  • Experienced coaches wanting to uplevel their coaching knowledge and skills 


Prerequisites:  

  • Minimum high school diploma/GED OR minimum number of professional work hours (i.e. 4000 hours) 
  • Proficient in English 
  • Proficient in the use of technology for online learning
